Accessibility statement

How accessible this website is, what I am doing to improve it, and how to tell me about a problem.

Last updated: 27 October 2026

My commitment

I want everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice control or magnification, and people with visual, hearing, motor or cognitive impairments. As a web designer, I think accessibility is part of doing the job properly.

This statement applies to https://garethdesign.co.uk, run by Gareth Davies, trading as Gareth Design and Utilis Internet Services.

Standard I am aiming for

I aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. This website partially conforms with WCAG 2.2 AA, and testing is in progress.

What I have done

  • The site uses headings, lists and landmarks so that screen readers can find their way around.
  • The contact form fields have visible labels.
  • The animated cursor in the logo stops if your device is set to reduce motion.
  • Text is set in a size that can be enlarged in the browser, and the layout adapts to phones and tablets.
  • An automated check on 27 October 2026 found no problems with the page language, image descriptions, form labels or link names on the home, blog and contact pages.

Known limitations

  • Colour contrast: some text does not yet meet the 4.5:1 minimum for AA. This includes white text on the green and blue buttons, the small blue labels above headings, and the grey dates on blog posts. I plan to fix these.
  • Heading order: on some pages a heading skips a level (for example an h4 in the footer or a post title after a main heading), which can make navigation by headings less smooth for screen reader users.
  • Keyboard-only and screen reader testing have not been completed yet, so there may be problems I have not found.
  • The contact form uses a third-party spam check (hCaptcha), which I do not control. If you cannot use it, email info@garethdesign.co.uk and I will help you directly.
  • Pages other than those named in the next section have not been tested yet, and some older guides and posts may not fully meet the standard. I am working through them.

How I tested

I last tested the site on 27 October 2026 using the axe-core automated accessibility checker in a desktop browser and at phone width. I checked the home page, the Guides & News page and the Contact page. Automated tools only find some problems, so manual testing with a keyboard and screen reader is still to be done.

If you are not happy with my reply
